When politicians claim the public supports extreme measures like banning meat or digital ID you can be sure that behind it is a Citizens' Assembly or other dubious method for manufacturing 'consent', says Alex Klaushofer.

Derry 'Crowned' First UK City of Culture

category derry | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday July 22, 2010 00:51author by Eleanor Report this post to the editors

Last Thursday evening news arrived that Derry City was victorious in its bid to be the UK's first City of Culture.

The great and the good of the city lined up in front of the worlds media and to join in with the celebrations.

Of course not everyone was in a party mood following this news. Several activists threw a spanner in the works as news broke. At Free Derry Corner to make their thoughts heard, they declared.. Derry was "NOT FOR SALE!" across the local land mark.

How could anyone object to such a prestigious prize, especially in times such as this?

As morning broke the sign was removed by persons unknown. The message was clear.. don't spoil our party!
