Fisheries Policy

GCFA has no fears of dealing with Louth County Council when it has already written to the EU in Brussels and been heard!
Eric Cuthbert
Eric Cuthbert

Sunday morning last saw a brief but busy meeting of Greenore-Cooley Fisherman's Association in No 5 Anglesea Terrace, Greenore, Co. Louth.

The secretary, Seán Crudden, reported that he had written to the EU consultation on fisheries policy before Christmas in line with an instruction from the previous meeting of GCFA. Asking for tighter quotas for mackeral being fished at sea. This was to give anglers fishing from the shore in Greenore a better chance. Eric Cuthbert asked the secretary to write further to the EU asking for a cap of 2 feathers when angling for mackeral. "Using 6 or 8 feathers shows greedy disprespect for the holy mackeral," he opined.

As Cooley is recognised as an area of excellence the secretary was instructed to write to the County Community and Voluntary Forums's representative on the Louth County Council's Strategic Policy Committee dealing with infrastructure. To provide a toilet and bins on The Cutting in Greenore.

After some discussion it was decided to attempt to convene an AGM of GCFA in September.

The next meeting of GCFA was fixed for Corpus Christi, Sunday 6 June 2010, at 10.00 in Anglesea Terrace, Greenore.
