Greyhound Racing’s Sad Casualties And More Animal Violations At Shelbourne Park

category dublin | animal rights | news report author Thursday August 22, 2013 18:54author by Bernie Wright - Alliance for Animal Rights AFAR.author email bigbrownrat at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Dog slaughter at Shelbourne Pk track as dog finishes race with Broken Hock.

The Alliance for Animal Rights group AFAR wish to condemn the IGB who are fully responsible for the serious injuring of Four healthy Greyhounds who were made race at the ETS Derby in Shelbourne Park last week. All of these dogs were badly injured at the track, including being ‘KOd’ knocked over and sustaining bone breakages including broken legs and hocks. We surmise some of these dogs risk being killed as their racing careers are most likely ended and they are possibly only of use as stud dogs.

• These casualties come hot on the heels of the exposure of Enniscorthy Greyhound Track leaving an injured and subsequently killed body of a dog for a week to rot in its kennels. See Star Newspaper 17-8-13.
Greyhounds Puma, Kilbarry Rover, North Bound and Paradise Silva have all appeared to be injured last week whilst racing at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Track.
Speaking regarding Skywalker Puma an enthusiast called Merlin on the forum greyhound nuts said
‘Ye were right lads, heard from somebody at the track, hock smashed, one tough dog to run around the track with that, a big loss’.
The dog despite his injuries ran the full race. Derby winner Skywalker Puma was withdrawn from The Night of the Stars last December as he already had a toe problem. It is sickening that these dogs are continuously being injured, drugged, shot and abandoned by the Greyhound Industry.
Speaking regarding Kilbarry Rover - Bridie Mac of greyhound nuts said
Kilbarry was carried off too. Looked like a break, front leg. Felt so sorry for young Timmy Holland. He was gutted and had to walk away and leave it to his parents to handle.

We call for a full investigation immediately and ask the Government to stop supporting this cruel industry every year with millions of taxpayers money.
Greyhounds are beautiful dogs that have a right to live free from pain and suffering and the use by humans for gambling purposes.
The only solution is an end to this dying Industry which we hope happens sooner rather than later.
